April 17 through 19 - Earth Day Network, with our partner Green Apple Festival, is holding simultaneous events in ten US cities over Earth Day Weekend - that will this year focus on environmental volunteerism. The service events, coupled with Earth Day on the National Mall in Washington, DC and free "Thank You" concerts for volunteers in each city, introduce"The Green Generation," a two-year initiative that will culminate on the 40th anniversary of Earth Day in 2010. Over Earth Day Weekend, simultaneous Volunteer Projects will be organized in New York City, Boston, Washington DC, Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Austin, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. 18-19th - Training for Transition, The purpose of the two-day training is to provide an in-depth experiential introduction to Transition for those who are considering bringing Transition to their community or getting involved in the leadership of an already existing local initiative.

The course includes the "fundamentals" for setting up, running and maintaining a successful Transition Initiative. It is packed with imaginative and inspiring ways to delve into both the theory and practice of Transition, providing training in the basics of Transition for new communities coming on board, as well as other skills necessary to successfully set up and run a Transition Initiative. The weekend will also include a special optional "Transition Clinic" (on Saturday evening) for those who want to go deeper into the nuts and bolts of launching or expanding local Transition Initiatives.

They each bring more than three years of on-the-ground relocalization experience to the Transition Training, as well as a in-depth practice in organizational development, group process technologies, and psychospiritual processes.

22nd - Green Drinks welcomes SIREN (Southern Indiana Renewable Energy Network), an all volunteer groups within the Center for Sustainable Living. They will provide a brief overview of who and what SIREN is, along with profiles of several RE installations in the Bloomington area during the program from 6 – 6:30 pm. The mission of SIREN is to accelerate the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy resources in south central Indiana. SIREN works to educate the community about the potential for renewables in our area, and assists members with their RE projects.
